Summary: Standard field work, clip plots, grass height, power outages do to low sunlight at Tonzi, CO2 profile not working

Phenology: grass grew well; oak tree leaves turned into brown at Vaira.

Summary
  1. Swapped memory cards of CR1000s at three sites. Due to consecutive raining or lower light days, Tonzi Tower flux system was down around 12/4/2014; Floor site might not work properly. Joe tried finding back data from reading the binary files.
  2. Checked and downloaded met data from PC at Tower, Floor. and Vaira.
  3. The CO2 profile system wasn’t calibrated on site due to some problems of the analyzer. Joe changed the filters and cleaned up the cells, but the system didn’t work properly.
  4. Checked SN# of the soil CO2 probes at Tonzi and Vaira; Joe put parts to hold the probes more stably.
  5. Read dendrometers
  6. Measured soil moisture
  7. Measured grass height
  8. Measured groundwater well
  9. Collected grass samples for LAI, biomass, and aboveground litter mass. The area around the fence that Joe cleaned in the summer turned out to be a good experiment for detecting the effects of litters on grass germination. For this reason, grass samples were taken within and out of the “green strip” at Vaira.

Vaira_Grass Site
  1. Nice Fence.
  2. Downloaded Phenocam images.
  3. Swapped the memory cards of CR1000.
  4. Checked the fans of air temp and relative humidity sensors at Vaira. YES!
  5. Downloaded met data:

  2. Checked levels of Radiation sensors, clear up surfaces.YES!
  3. Checked rain gage, make sure not clogged. YES!
  4. Closed gate and set up fence. YES!

Tonzi_Tower Site
