Summary: Tractor work on the surrounding fields, installed ground sensors under tower, Mark 3 needs mount finished, ants in met box, missing 2 weeks of methane data--fixed now
Bouldin Corn, 2024-04-16 Daphne and I arrived at 11:39 PDT. It was mostly sunny with some scattered cumulus and cirrus clouds and a light breeze. We followed a tractor with disking apparatus in. Our field is disked and they are working on the surrounding fields but some of the fields are only partly done like itβs still too wet. There is a 1.5m gap between our tower and where they disked β might need to move the tower this year. Daphne collected the flux, met, camera and purple air data. The 7500 read: 424ppm CO2, 597mmol/m3 H2O, 20.35C, 102.0kPa, 100SS The 7700 read: 2.06ppm CH4, 44RSSI β 72 after cleaning The wash reservoir was about 1/3 low β refilled. The eddy clock was adjusted +1:30 min at 10:45. The 7700 had a clock error when we arrived but after the USB swap it was okay and logging. We left some mothballs for the ants in the met box. The Mark 3 still needs a permanent mount. The clamp should be replaced with a couple of tapped 1/4-20 bolts. I cleaned bird poop off the upward diffuse sensor window. The tipping bucket was clean except for some dry gunk in the very bottom covering the outlet. I cleaned it out. We put the soil sensors in the ground under the tower. There is thick knee-high grass from the road to just past the tower. I tried to pull out the grass to make bare ground similar to the disked field but probably still not a great match. The Campbell soil moisture sensors went in vertically at the surface as did the Delta-T soil moisture. I was able to just push in the TC profile rods. And we buried the SHF plates at about -2cm depths. We left at 12:05 PDT I talked to Charlotte on Wednesday and she said they are going to disk/till the field again on Friday. Looking at the data back in the lab, we are missing CH4 data since the last site visit on 2024-03-25 when we swapped the 7500 for calibration. Daphne is pretty sure she checked that there was no time sync error at that time, but it must've started after the swap. |
