Summary: Maintained Vaisala CO2 probes, standard field work

Vaira 2014-12-09 I arrived about 9:00am with Siyan. It was mild and overcast with little to no wind. The sun came out for a bit as we left but it got cold and dark again later. The puddles on the road were all full and there was some water in the water hole. The trees have lost their leaves or turned brown. The grass looks really healthy. The mowed area around the fence will be an interesting litter removal experiment. I worked on maintaining the Vaisala CO2 probes. Two thermocouples on the west set were reading INF. I couldn’t find any breaks but wiggling them around seemed to fix one. Next time maybe need to try re-soldering the other one. We pulled out all the probes and check serial numbers. The north set may have been in the wrong order. I put in new posts with clamps to hold the 2cm and 4cm tubes. I packed soil around all tubes so that they were firmly in the ground. There should be a couple of reading with all the probes exposed to ambient air. Vaisala Probes West 2cm, sn K1350103 West 4cm, sn K1350102 West 8cm, sn K1350101 North 8cm, sn Y1950005 may have been at 4cm North 4cm, sn G0230061 may have been at 2cm North 2cm, sn G0230062 may have been at 8cm East 2cm, sn Z2720015 East 4cm, sn Y2030049 East 8cm, sn Y2009109 Siyan did the standard field work including clip plots and grass height. I reinstalled one of two loose guy wires on the met tower. We need a new screen for the tipping bucket. We can remove the old fence charger post and solar panel, and the old 23x solar panels. We could add boardwalks to the soil CO2 solar panels and batteries.
