Three undergraduates are conducting research in the Biometeorology Lab this summer. Jose Luis Sanchez is working on the Twitchell Island rice project as part of the Biology Scholars Program. Mirabel Jaquez is an engineering student from UC Irvine working on the LED sensor as part of the Cal NERDS program. Emily Chow is an Environmental Science major performing her senior thesis project on the potential methane production from peat sediments.

Visitors

Markus Reichstein from the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena, Germany, is a FLUXNET visiting scientist for 6 weeks this summer.

Research

The Biomet Lab conducted an extensive root sampling study at Tonzi ranch. 15 pits were dug and sampled as well as 84 root cores. Together this information will be used to test a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system which we rented.

The COSMOS team of the University of Arizona installed a COSMOS soil moisture system at Tonzi ranch
