Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, delayed arrival because of one-lane traffic control on bridge, meant to install replacement water level sensor but killed the sensor
2023-11-20 Mayberry Carlos, Ngoc, and I arrived at 16:25 PST as the sun was starting to set. The breeze was picking up, the mosquitoes were coming out, and it was getting chilly. The hay pile under the Antioch bridge seems to be larger than before. We came from Twitchell Island and were delayed about 30min north of Three Mile Slough bridge. Caltrans was re-paving south of the bridge, so there was one-lane traffic control through the bridge. Carlos got started downloading data while Ngoc cleaned the rad sensors and I measured porewater salinity. I measured the surface water conductivity under the tower instead of by the sippers because the water level is still going down and there was hardly any water under the boardwalk by the sippers. The staff gauge read 23cm. Carlos climbed up the tower to clean the flux sensors and to swap in a new 7700 hat because the old hat was getting worn. The water level sensor stopped working a few weeks ago. Joe had prepped a sensor to install here. I wired it in and then killed it by plugging the power in backwards. Unfortunately, the pluggable power strip has two columns of plugs, but each column is backwards from the other. The right column has upright plugs and the left column has L-shaped plugs. I used a plug from the right column to plug into the left column. I switched it to the correct wires but the sensor was not giving any data, so pretty sure this sensor is dead. I should make a new pluggable power strip for here where the two columns are identical. Depth, Temperature-compensated conductivity, Temperature Yellow, 15.62mS, 15.6C Green, 10.56mS, 14.6C Bare, no sample able to be collected Blue, no sample able to be collected Red, no sample able to be collected Surface, 3.78mS, 13.1C We left at 17:00 PST. We used the last minutes of daylight to drive out. I’ll have to get Gilbert Tract data another time, maybe next Tuesday after the Antioch HS classroom visit. Looking at the data in the lab, SWout looks weird in the last few days. Probably a loose wire. |
