Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, sheep fence, swapped 7700 for calibration, 7700 wash tubing broken--needs swap
2023-07-24 Mayberry Ngoc and I arrived at 16:25 PDT. It was warm and breezy with some cirrus clouds in the sky. Today was Ngoc's first time to the Delta wetland sites. There was an electric sheep fence blocking our path shortly after coming off of the gravel levee road and crossing the clearing. The fence wasn't electrified, so we pulled up three of the fence stakes and laid the fence on the ground so I could drive over with the car. We passed the sheep and a guard dog about halfway to the tower. The wetland is looking nice and green although the water level is much lower than before. The staff gauge read 22.5cm. I had to clean off about 10cm of the staff gauge to take a reading. There are some large barnacles lower down on the staff gauge that should be knocked off another time. Some mosquitoes coming out now that it's cooling down slightly. The 7700 wash tubing temporary repair had failed, but I forgot to bring extra tubing today. Maybe Dennis and I can stop by again tomorrow on the way home from Tonzi. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. We lowered the eddy post and Ngoc cleaned flux and rad sensors. The reservoir was empty (since the 7700 tubing was broken, the 7700 remained dirty and the pump continued wash attempts); we refilled it. We swapped the LI-7700 for calibration: sn TG1-0223 came down and sn TG1-0211 went up. I connected the 7700 in the 7550 software, reset the box, and all looked ok. I should double check the cleaning/heating settings next time. Ngoc put the spray nozzle and 7700 hat back on the fresh 7700, and somewhere in the process got fiberglass in her hand. We raised the eddy post back up and secured it with the bolt so it's at the same height and orientation as before. The 7500 read: 404ppm CO2, 770mmol/m3 H2O, 28.7C, 100.8kPa, 100SS after cleaning TG1-0223 read: 6.2ppm CH4, 0RSSI (dirty sensor because the wash tubing was broken) TG1-0223 clean read: 1.95ppm CH4, 78RSSI TG1-0211 read: 1.97ppm CH4, 70RSSI I was planning to do the monthly porewater samples for Kyle today, but it's getting late, so maybe Dennis and I can do it tomorrow. We left around 17:40 PDT. We pulled up the sheep fence again to drive over it to exit and hammered the fence posts better this time when we put it back up. The middle post looks a little bent. |
