Bouldin Corn

Ngoc and I arrived at 11:35 PDT. It was sunny and warm with an occasional gust of wind. There was much construction traffic trundling to and fro, including the water truck, a large pickup truck with an orange flag in the back, some sort of front loader, and at least a dozen dump trucks going back and forth between a site just southwest of us and the fields north of the overpass. Dump trucks full of dirt would go north under the overpass and come back empty. The dirt road east of us has been graded and maybe slightly widened to allow two dump trucks to pass each other. It was pretty dusty with the trucks passing by, even with the water truck.

We parked in our usual spot by the duck club and saw two otters climb up briefly from the drainage channel before sliding back down and disappearing into the water. We started our tower work briefly before the front loader driver stopped and asked us to move our car forward to the side of the Duck Club. They needed our parking spot area as a turnaround or pullout to manage all of the construction traffic.

The corn is super tall now! Most of the plants have tassels and we even saw a few small cobs. Ngoc wanted to harvest some but I told her it wouldn't be ready for another month at least. Ngoc took veg height measurements.

I downloaded the usual data: met, cam, USB GHG, PA, and IRT. I made sure to download the 5min met data since 2023-06-28--it was missing from the download two weeks ago. The photos on the camera card this time were complete. At the last download I was missing all photos. This time I reformatted the fresh card in Loggernet File Control. I checked File Control again before we left and confirmed that photos were getting saved at the right times. I'm not sure what was wrong before but maybe the reformat helped. Ngoc cleaned flux and rad sensors. I topped off the wash reservoir.

We swapped the LI7500A for calibration: sn 75H-2669 came off and sn 0418 went on. I uploaded the new configuration file and updated the pressure coefficients. I changed the eddy clock +30sec around 11:00 PST to match the laptop clock and reset the box. All looked ok.

75H-2669 clean read: 388ppm CO2, 632mmol/m3 H2O, 27.8C, 101.6kPa, 101SS
0418 read: 389ppm CO2, 647mmol/m3 H2O, 27.7C, 101.6kPa, 96.7SS
The 7700 read: 1.98ppm CH4, 69RSSI – 73 after cleaning

We left at 12:20 PDT.
