Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, wasp nest under solar panels
2020-08-05 West Pond I arrived at 9:25 PDT. It was warm and breezy with a few scattered cumulus clouds. The inlet was off. The water level was near the soil surface and the staff gauge read 27 cm. I collected met, camera, and USB GHG data. I changed the water level desiccant, cleaned flux and rad sensors, and topped off the reservoir. I put on waders to clean the solar panels and trim the tules in front. Trimming has been on my list for long enough that most of the tules had already grown tall enough to bend down and no longer block the panels. At some point, I looked up to see a palm-sized wasp nest under the bottom edge of the panels. The 10-12 wasps were all lined up in a few rows, facing me. It’s quite intimidating to see 10 pairs of yellow antennae all pointing toward you. I backed away and climbed up the side of the scaffolding to access the solar panels. I rinsed the panels and squeegeed the top 1/3 of the panels (all I could reach for now). LI-7500 readings: CO2 399ppm H2O 680ppm T 21.3C P 101.3kPa SS 99--> 99 LI7700 readings: CH4 1.97ppm RSSI 68--> 72 after cleaning I left at 10:30 PDT. |
