Summary: Installed two pairs of Arable Mark IIs for Planet Labs project, alfalfa tall and flowering
Bouldin Alfalfa 2020-05-29 I arrived at about 14:30. It was warm and sunny with high thin clouds and a gusty wind from the west. The alfalfa is thigh high (~54cm) and full of flowers. Fields near the highway have been mowed and I saw a mower on a field to the north so our field may be mowed soon. I installed two pairs of Arable Mark IIs for the Arable/Planet Labs project. The first pair, sn C003947 and sn C003751, went in 40m at a heading of 300 deg from the north corner of the tower and about 30m in from the edge of the field. The other pair, sn C003800 and sn C003789, went in 31m further northeast still 30m from the edge of the field. Hopefully these locations are in line with the mowing, raking and baling operations and will not need the tractors to detour from their usual paths much. Both pairs are 1.87m above the ground, about 40cm apart on center and aligned to face south. I had assembled them on their posts with the solar panels and started their boot up processes at the car before moving them to their measurement locations. They should report their GPS coordinates. I was going to add a collar to the older FD chamber but decided to wait until the field is mowed. I left at about 16:20 |
