Summary: Weeds dying from herbicide, added under canopy PAR, add two more FD chambers, fixed 7700 TC tubing, collected picam images - seemed okay, veg height and density
Bouldin Corn 2020-05-29 I arrived at about 11:00. It was warm with high thin clouds and a gusty wind from the west. I don’t see any evidence of tractor work in any of the nearby fields. The weeds are all dying due to herbicide probably sprayed by crop duster last week. Some of the corn leaves are a little spotted too. I added two PAR sensors at ground level near the picams for under canopy PAR. I rewrote the CR1000 program commenting out the current sensor that was disconnected in moving the tower last time – it was reporting in the 5min data file. I added the two under canopy PAR sensors to the end of the multiplexor and the 30min data file: sn 040412 is PAR_under(1) and sn 030381 is PAR_under(2). I reinstalled the other two FD chambers sn FD20180047 and sn FD20180048. Both are in the normal density rows of corn between the tower and the overcrowded corn forest of the unharvested area further out. I added a junction box on the ground under the scaffolding for the power and data connections of the FD data cables. I collected data from all three chambers and cleared their memories. I added new tubing to the 7700 thermocouple. The mirrors looked dirty but the RSSI was relatively high so I didn’t clean them. I collected the images from all three picams and cleared their memories. They all seemed to be working properly. I measured veg height, row spacing and plant density: Row spacing: 77, 78, 94, 72, 77, 72, 78, 74, 74 = 77.3cm average Plant density: 8, 9, 9, 6, 8, 7, 9 = 8 plants per meter average See veg height below. I wanted to install a pair of Mark IIs for the Arable/Planet Labs project but don’t know yet if they will have tractors in the field again or not. I started to put them in at the north edge of our field but had trouble getting them to connect – very poor cell signal in that area. Since they would have to be moved again anyway, I gave up for now. Hopefully I can get it done next week. I left at about 14:30 |
