Summary: Site looks the same. All was well. Vaisala looks good against the standard, but would like to do again.

We arrived about 08:30 PDT. Weather was sunny with a light breeze and we could feel it was going to be a hot one. The water in the ditch by the side of the road was still high and the field under the bridge still flooded. The site doesn’t seemed to have changed much, still regular sprinklings of green amidst the dry pepper weed.

I checked the tower, swapped the CR1000 card, downloaded MET and soil CO2 streams and the autocam pics while Sara and Laurie did the chamber measurements, moisture point, and water well depth. No spectral or LAI this week.

LGR readings: 07:32 , 24.1 °C, 130.3 Torr (adjusted to 145 Torr), 13.84 us, 10 Hz, 1.96 ppm, ch4_20120906_001.txt

7500 readings:
CO2: 16.8 mmol m-3
H2O: 695 mmol m-3
T: 20.1 °C

MET looked good.

We brought out the Vaisala temperature standard to check the Vaisala temp/rh probe on the tower. I realized later in the day that the long settling time (upwards of 5 minutes) can be significantly reduced (to ~30 seconds) by keeping the standard probe shielded from the sun before using it (duh!). Replacing the tower probe with the standard resulted in values intermediate to the tower probe values before and after the standard:
Standard: T = 18.3 C; RH =79%
Tower probe: T = 17.54 C before, 18.6 C after; RH = 83.9% before, 77.5% after

I think I’ll bring out the probe again next time to refine these now that I know the deal.

SARA K: I removed the 5 cm ThetaProbe from profile B (located in port 10 on the multiplexer) to calibrate in the lab.
