Hill Slough: 2025-01-02 10:00:00 (DOY 2)

Summary: End-of-year data collection, very low water, a few days of missing data from dark/rainy days, sonic rangefinder data bad--needs more work

Hill Slough

Joe and I arrived at 10:00 PST. Happy new year! It was a mild winter day, calm, cool and sunny with high thin clouds. The water level was very low with lots of wading birds around. The water seemed pretty shallow all the way to the southern berm, except for maybe the 5m adjacent to the berm.

The shadowband was not rotating but started to turn when Joe pulled on its red power wire. Probably just an old motor. Joe left the motor disconnected for now and we'll see if we have spares in the lab.

I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. We lost power for about 18 hours due to dark and dreary weather, 2024-12-23 18:00 to 2024-12-14 12:00. The wash reservoir was full, but the RSSI wasn’t too bad. Joe cleaned the flux and rad sensors and checked that the rain bucket was clear.

There wasn’t enough surface water for a conductivity reading, but Joe measured porewater conductivity.

Porewater, 7.75mS, 13.5C, Flush
Porewater, 7.67mS, 12.4C

Joe scrubbed the “channel” staff gauge and read the staff gauge as 3.65ft at 10:22 PST. I collected the miniDOT data (it was out of the water) and swapped its desiccant.

The 7500 read: 464ppm CO2, 418mmol/m3 H2O, 14.0C, 102.5kPa, 101SS - 101.1 after cleaning
The 7700 read: 2.4ppm CH4, 40RSSI - 87 after cleaning

Maintenance to-do:
- Replace shadowband motor
- Replace wood in lower boardwalk
- Replace clasp for channel met box
- Install EXO and move water sensors to an inundated location
-  I think some of the rad sensors still need split-loom
- TC23 and TC24 are nan

We left at 10:25 PST.

Looking at the data in the lab, the sonic rangefinder data still looks weird.
