Bouldin Alfalfa: 2024-08-07 11:50:00 (DOY 220)
Author: Daphne Szutu
Others: Joe, Kuno
Summary: Biomet Olympics the 3sqm alfalfa trim, Farmer picking up bales on the field, alfalfa under tower trimmed, spectral, under-canopy PAR cleared
2024-08-07 Bouldin Alfalfa Joe, Kuno, and I arrived at 11:50 PST. It was hot and sunny with hazy horizons. There might have been small patches of clouds near the horizon, but nothing above us. The third event of the 2024 Biomet Olympic hexathalon took place at Bouldin Alfalfa. Here Kuno helped team DKJ regain their lead in the 3sqm alfalfa trim. His Japanese mini-sickle (Kama) technique was impeccable. The field has been mowed, raked, and baled, and a farmer was working on picking up bales when we arrived. Joe moved the truck so it was in line with the tower and we could stay out of the farmer's way. There was one bale between the solar panels and the tower, and another bale maybe 20m south of the tower. I found the undercanopy PAR sensor buried under litter. I cleared it off and leveled it a bit. Joe took spectral measurements and cleaned the flux and rad sensors. Kuno trimmed all of the alfalfa under the tower. I collected met, cam, USB GHG, and FD data. The 7500 read: 420ppm CO2, 504mmol/m3 H2O, 36.0C, 101.1kPa, 95SS—98 after cleaning We left at 12:10 PST. |
