Summary: Windy, corrected channel CR6 clock, stowaway wasps from yesterday

2024-11-06
Gilbert Tract

Robert and I arrived at 8:53 PST. It’s the day after election day and there’s a Red Flag Warning for high winds and low humidities around the bay area. It is cool, clear, and very windy.

I removed my laptop from its bag and discovered a handful of sleepy wasps in the outside flap. Stowaways from our wasp-y day yesterday at East End.

Robert cleaned flux and rad sensors. He read the staff gauge at 66cm at 9:15 PST and measured the surface water conductivity. The reservoir was 90% full and we refilled it.

Surface, 664uS, 11.3C

I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. I changed the 7700 heater to winter hours; from 20:00-06:00 to 18:00-08:00.

There were only a few days of files on the bird recorder, but I was able to turn it on and see that its rechargeable batteries were at 25%. I’m thinking I could test those “lightly used” lithium AA batteries in the lab and use those instead of remembering to charge batteries. I was prompted to update the time zone and location in the app, so data from the Song Meter Micro must be in local time.

7500 read: 421ppm CO2, 278mmol/m3 H2O, 16.3C, 101.6kPa, 97SS--99 after cleaning
7700 read: 2.03ppm CH4, 59RSSI – 85 after cleaning

I got to the channel at 9:25 PST. The water level was middling and the water surface showed wind blowing from the north. I downloaded the CR6 data and went into Site Setup to change its timezone offset from +8 to 0 hours. Now the CR6 clock is synched with the laptop and my data should no longer be in UTC time. I downloaded the ADCP data. I set the clock manually from the menu, but the clock only showed it was 1 second off, rather than the usual large, stated offset (8000 days or something like that). Must be an improvement in the latest SL software version. I restarted ADCP data collection.

We left around 9:30 PST. There were maybe a dozen more wasp stowaways in the car. A few new ones kept showing up every hour throughout the day.
