Daphne, Jiangong and I arrived at about 12:30 PDT. There’s a huge amount of levee work going on along the north edge of the island. North of the highway they have obliterated several corn fields for a borrow pit to get material to improve the levees. Not much truck traffic past our site today, but looks like the road had been freshly graded. Charlotte was at the site trying to blow water out of some of her tubing lines that she thinks got in when they watered the road. It was sunny and hot but with a little breeze that made it much more bearable than the muggy wetlands yesterday. Lots of wasps around and I knocked a small nest off the bottom of the boardwalk.

I found a giant piece of 8” PVC pipe that we can make more Licor chamber collars from.

We are testing our new Licor LI-7810 (CO2/CH4/H2O) analyzer and LI-8100 Smart Chamber. Jiangong choose two location just inside the corn field and just outside the corn and ran the system with his phone. CH4 flux was near zero but CO2 fluxes were around 30umol/m2/s.

Daphne did the regular tower work collection met, flux, camera, IRT and purple air data.
The 7500 read: 391ppm CO2, 900mmol/m3 H2O, 32.7C, 101.1kPa, 90SS
After cleaning: 408ppm CO2, 742mmol/m3 H2O, 32.7C, 101.1kPa, 98SS
The 7700 read: 1.99ppm CH4, 48RSSI – 76 after cleaning

I shutdown and removed the z-cams as we don’t expect the corn to grow any more: sn RPI0W-007 and sn RPI0W-002. Still need to get the last set of images off them in the lab.

No veg height because the corn isn’t getting taller. Still need to do biomass, hopefully when the corn is a bit drier – still pretty green

We swapped the well sensor: sn 70011234 came off and sn 20010770 went on. The new sensor was a longer cable to give a little more freedom in moving the tower. There was no water in the well and the old sensor was buried in mud at the bottom. We will have to clean out the well and make measurements for the location of the new sensor.

Daphne swapped in a new pluggable power strip. It still doesn’t have enough plugs for everything to get its own plug.

We all left at about 14:00 PDT
