Summary: Installed fence around tower, installed well for WTD at Aux station
We arrived at 11am, sunny warm day. First we installed a cattle fence around the tower and solar array (same design as nextdoor met tower). Right now one of the fence panels opens by undoing a reusable zip tie. Could add a lock next time. Next we installed a well for the pressure transducer at the new Aux site. Well has an outer tube of black pvc with large holes. Inner tube is white pvc with slits/perforations along both sides. Annulus is filled with sand. Plastic screen installed at the bottom of the well. We dug the well 1ft deeper than it needed to go. Botton of well at 3ft so we augered 4 ft/1.2m down, filled the bottom with gravel but then had to pull some of the gravel out in order to get the well into 3ft/0.9m. Put the P transducer into well (0.9m) but did not wire into logger. Need to add to logger program next time. WTD at 0cm during install of well at 3pm. We did not cap the well as our cap does not have holes in it. We will drill holes in the lab and deploy next time. Overall, placement of Aux site looks good (thank you Joe). We did not reinstall ground sensors at Aux site b/c we ran out of time but they looked ok to me. WTD was pretty high while we were there and so we took a measurement of salinity with handheld sensor using surface water. temp=25.5C, cond=0 us/cm, RDO 19.82. Check next time conductivity data, but when we were there the water seemed very fresh. |
