Summary: Quick stop for storm prep
2023-01-03 East End Joe and I arrived around 14:00 PST. It was cold and overcast and relatively still. We’ve had two big storms in the last week (Dec 26-27 and Dec 31), and another big one coming tomorrow (an ”atmospheric river bomb cyclone”). More storms forecast for this weekend and next week, too. Today is a quick stop to visually check the tower and sensors after the first set of storms and before the next one. Everything was running and all looked okay. We removed the upper boardwalk to present less surface area to the winds. We left but came back about 10 minutes later to tighten the guy wires; they were both pretty tight. We left a few minutes later and drove back out through the flooded gas pad. Good thing we had a big truck today. There were a few muddy sheep chowing down by the pumphouse. We could add the spare ½ layer of scaffolding to the solar panels to get them slightly higher above the tules. That would make them more prone to wind events, though. We’ll be back on Friday to collect the data. |
