Dennis and I arrived at about 12:15 PDT. It was clear, sunny and mild with a gusty wind. The ground surface is dry and there are no puddles on the road. I did some digging and just below the surface to soil is damp. The trees have started to put on leaves.

I installed the CalKit on the top of the tower. The following equipment was moved from Vaira:

I collected the flux, met, image and FD data. I read the dendrometers. I serviced the z-cams. Z-cam 2 was twisted to the west. I straightened it and tightened the hose clamps holding it. Looks like one of the larger limbs in z-cam 3’s view has died.

Dennis did the moisture point measurements, measured the wells and fixed the cow fences. I saw a few cows to the east of the Tower – fresh cow pies in the area. The fences around the Tower and the soil co2 sites where broken. Dennis also moved some more of the old tram rails over to the Tower fence.

I dug around the soil heat flux plates on the OSU SP1 system to find out where they were installed. Both plates are at about 12-14cm deep. One is directly under the NR10 net radiometer. The other is about a meter to the southwest. Both have two thermocouple at nearly equal intervals above the plate and below the surface. All the thermocouples seem to be wired together to give a single average temperature. I hope I didn’t disturb the sensors or the surface too much.

The solar panels and lithium power packs I put on the Road well and IRT system seem to be working – both systems had full data. The cows had kicked the Road well solar panel around and Dennis said he found it lying face down. It packed rocks around it but not sure it will be cow proof. Both power packs were not fully charged – the IRT was down one status light from full and the Road well pack had two status lights.

I replaced the power wire for the Floor HMP45 fan.

I forgot to clean the Tower phenocam window again.
