Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, breezy, diffuse PAR not working--fixed, water level up a little, first site visit in a month.
2020-05-01 East End Mike and I arrived at 12:45 PDT. It was a warm day with a cool breeze. This is our 7th week of sheltering in place, with at least 4 more weeks to go. The wetland on our half of the parcel was about 1/3 green, but the western half of the parcel was still was mostly brown. The water level was 41 cm. I took some videos and photos with a 360 camera. I downloaded met, camera, USB GHG, and miniDOT data. The reservoir was mostly empty; I refilled it and knocked out a wasps’ nest. I cleaned flux and rad sensors. I changed the miniDOT and water level sensor desiccants. The water level has come up a little, so I moved the miniDOT up in the water column so the sensor is about 30cm under the water surface. The eddy clocks look good. The diffuse PAR band was not spinning when we arrived. I tried resetting the CR10X and sensor power, which did not work to re-start the sensor. I connected to the CR10X and synced its clock (changed from 12:08 to 12:16 PST). I re-sent the .dld program file in case there was a glitch in the datalogger or program. The sensor was still not working. I climbed up to the top of the tower to open the motor box. As I opened it, I heard the motor start spinning again. The data seemed reasonable, so I closed the box and left it as is. [Joe's note: In the diffuse PAR system the CR10X and the motor are independent. In this case there is probably a loose power connection to the motor or the motor is wearing out. Also the clock on the CR10X is not critical as it is polled by the main met data logger for new data whenever it is ready.] LI-7500 readings: CO2 411ppm H2O 380ppm T 25.1C P 101.7kPa SS 93 --> forgot to write after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 2.02ppm RSSI 33 --> 79 after cleaning We left at 13:45 PDT. |
