Summary: Field still half mowed, no power for spectrometer or LI-6400, squirrels active, low voltage power outages.
Alfalfa 2015-10-29 I arrived about 11:30 with Sara. It was mild and windy with a clear blue sky. The field is the same as last time, half mowed, half un-mowed. The mowed area is almost as tall as the un-mowed area. The un-mowed half is near the tower so we did not clip around the ground instruments. The battery in the spectrometer was dead and we forgot to bring a battery for the 6400. I tried to hook up the 6400 to the power at the soil CO2 box, but it seemed to keep browning out. I’ll have to test it in the lab. Sara did veg height. The 7500 read: 381.79ppm CO2, 419.2mmol/m3 H2O, 93.2SS, 24.47C, 101.39kPa The ground squirrels are active. They chewed the lead for the 6400 power. I cut it off the batteries. I put some mothballs in the squirrel holes and filled them with dirt. The diffuse PAR was running, but the minPar in the data logger looked too high. I’ll look at the data but I might have to change the sampling frequency. The system seems to have been having low power for the last week. The batteries probably need to be swapped. |
