Summary: Field draining. Leak in 7700 reservoir system.

2013-02-14 We arrived at approximately 13:15 PST. It was sunny and warm out, about ~18 °C with a mild breeze. The field has generally been drained but there remains a bit of standing water in parts. Sara and I attended to the tower, cleaned the instruments, and downloaded the data. 7500 readings: CO2 = 403.8 ppm (406.9 after cleaning) H2O = 410 mmol m-3 (410 after cleaning) agc = 32 (after cleaning it was 27.8) p = 102.36 kPa 7700 readings: CH4 = 2.06 ppm RSSI = 44 (bumped to 67 after cleaning) Filled 7700 reservoir (was empty). Since this reservoir has continued to be low while the others have held well, I checked the spray settings and found no problems. Then we forced the sprayer to run and found a leak in what appears to be a filter between where the water exits the reservoir and where it enters the pump. I took a picture and will send to Joe for posting. The leak appears to result from a failed seam in the plastic and I think the piece needs replacing. We placed silicone around the seam and came back later to check it but it still leaked so we did our best to wrap it up with electrical tape. This seemed to work but for how long is anyone’s guess. Should be an easy fix with a new part. MET looked good. |
