Summary: Changed CR1000 program, bugs in 7700 path, flew kite, tried weather balloon.

2011-07-21 I arrived about 9am PDT with Jaclyn, Jose and Maribel. It was warm, clear and sunny, but a good breeze from the west made it feel pleasant. Quite a few more birds are around in the morning than when we usually get there in the afternoon. The tules have almost completely surrounded the Tule Tower. Lots of algae and water plants everywhere. We tried to fly the weather balloon, but it was too windy and maybe we need to add more helium to get the lift we need. The balloon drifted far down wind and would dip near the ground when the wind blew. So we flew the kite instead and that seemed to work really well this time. We might manually set the shutter speed to help reduce over exposure of the land and blurring from motion. I had some difficulty getting the new card to initialize in the CR1000. The CFM LED did its normal fast flicker then settled into a unusually slow on off pattern. I cycled power on the CR1000 and the LED went to amber. I uploaded the new program and it seemed to take a long time, but the card finally initialized, seemed okay and reported okay in Loggernet. The new program removes the LI7700 time data from the fast output. The LI7700 reservior was about 1/4 empty - filled. I collected data from the CR23X and the Tule CR10X and swapped the card on the autocam. The LI7700 had bugs caught in spider webs on its spars that would blow into the path when the wind blew. The RSSI fluctuated between 10 and 55. After removing the spider webs and cleaning the mirrors the RSSI read 86%. |
