Hill Slough: 2024-02-12 16:30:00 (DOY 43)

Summary: High tide, glass-like water surface, removed wildlife microphone, wiped EXO sensors
2024-02-12 Hill Slough Kyle and I arrived at 16:30 PST. It was calm and mostly cloudy with piece-y, wave-like clouds (mackerel sky). It was near high tide and the staff gauge read 6.55ft at 16:50 PST. The bottom step leading up to the walkway was inundated so we had to jump up to the second step. The water was much closer than usual to the bottom of the walkway, so it felt like we were on a lakeside dock. We moved the upper boardwalk back up (it had been moved lower down for storm prep) and left it there since there don’t seem to be any crazy winds in the current forecast. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. Kyle cleaned flux and rad sensors and refilled the wash reservoir, which had been about half full. I changed the eddy clock +45sec from 16:44:30 to 16:45:15 to match the laptop time and restarted logging. I removed the Song Meter Micro (wildlife microphone). I will download its files back in the lab and we can put it back up at Gilbert Tract during the next site visit. I measured porewater and surface water conductivity using the handheld YSI probe. Sample, Temperature-compensated conductivity, Temperature Porewater_flush, 7.72 mS, 14.9 degC Porewater, 7.30 mS, 13.5 degC Surface, 1.882 mS, 13.6 degC The 7500 read: 426ppm CO2, 393mmol/m3 H2O, 18.2C, 102.0kPa, 99SS—99 after cleaning The 7700 read: 2.2ppm CH4, 46RSSI – 90 after cleaning At the channel, we pulled up the EXO to check it since the auto-wiper has been sent back to the factory. There was another pile of fish roe on the side of the sensors, and the optical sensors (fDOM, turbidity) had a brown film over them. I wiped off all of the sensors and rinsed the fish roe off. I also tested two mini-USB cables with the EXO DCP adapter. The black one worked to communicate between the EXO and the laptop, so I left it coiled up in the CR23X enclosure. We left at 17:05 PST. |

Some sort of plastic decking on the road across from our tower, running to the east. Maybe they're doing sort of construction out there?
