Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, RSB not spinning--fixed, measured sonic heading, cattails growing under "water" Rnet and PARout sensors, measured porewater salinities
2023-09-12 Mayberry Joe and I arrived at 12:05 PDT. It’s only been a week since the last site visit but I will be away all next week. It was warm and sunny with not much breeze. The water level has gone up a little and the staff gauge read 40cm. The cattails are continuing to spread underneath the “water” Rnet and PARout sensors. We should either move this tower out toward the middle of the channel, or remove these sensors, or consider these sensors as measuring vegetation, not open water. The rotating shadow band was not spinning here either. Joe replaced its motor. The CR10X enclosure was open from last week but everything inside seemed ok. Joe measured the sonic orientation with a compass: 5 deg mag N (19 deg true N) I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. I dropped the USB-ethernet dongle in the water so I’m using sneakernet to download all the data and datamule to look at the real-time Licor data. The wash reservoir was maybe 80% full; I refilled it. There was a small bite mark in the wash tubing. I taped it for now, and it probably needs split loom in the future. I downloaded the miniDOT data and swapped its batteries as part of its ~annual swap. I also swapped the desiccant for the miniDOT and water level sensors. The miniDOT and eosGP both need new copper screens. The 7500 read: 416ppm CO2, 746 mmol/m3 H2O, 25.8C, 100.7kPa, 100SS – 100 after cleaning The 7700 read: 1.95ppm CH4, 20RSSI – 73 after cleaning We measured porewater salinity from the sippers. I brought some pre-rinsed small (~30ml) syringes so we could measure directly in the syringe body, but the probe was just a little too wide to fit. Instead we used the larger (~150ml) syringe. The conductivity probe was rinsed with DI between each sample. I took one draw of sample, which we used to pre-rinse the syringe and the probe. I discarded that sample and drew a fresh sample, which we then measured. We skipped the 3-way valve and just used a soft tubing to connect the syringe and sipper tubing. At the yellow depth, there is a lot of soil in the sample water which sometimes clogs the syringe tip. Depth, Temperature-compensated conductivity, Temperature Surface, 2.23mS, 22.6C Red, 8.29mS, 24.1C Bare, 18.39mS, 23.3C Blue, no sample was able to be collected Green, 10.46mS, 23.9C Yellow, 18.00mS, 24.9C We left at 12:55 PDT. |
