Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, tie-downs loose--tightened, IRT CR1000X no data and no program--resent program, HMP dead--removed
2023-04-03 Bouldin Corn Carlos and I arrived at 14:40 PDT. It was mostly clear but there were many cumulus, rain clouds, and virga on the horizons. It was windy and cold. After yet another atmospheric river last week, I think there will finally be a pause in major rain events (or maybe it will never rain again). It’s been 3.5 weeks since the last visit here—site visits got off schedules coordinating between the rain storms and our recent visitors. I had removed the boardwalks last time and good thing I did, as both of the tie-downs on the eastern side of the tower were loose. The northern tie-down with the ground anchor had a completely slack chain. The southern tie-down had disconnected from the fence post. I reconnected it and tightened everything. The western tie-downs were ok, just had to be tightened a little. I downloaded met, cam, USB GHG, FD, and PA data. HMP data has been spiky since Mar. 17 and stopped on Mar. 23. The black plastic connector on the bottom of the sensor had come apart—maybe too much tension in the mounting. The black plastic seems like it has threads but it wasn’t screwing back together. I removed HMP60 sn L1740398 to bring back to the lab for repair. We will be back in the Delta next week for the Knigthsen field trip; I can install the Hygrovue here. The IRT CR1000X microSD card was blank. I connected to the CR1000X and there was no program in its file control. I couldn’t find the program on sneakernet, so I planned to retrieve the program from the BA IRT CR1000X. Later I found out that I had the CR1000X .cr1x program all along, it just wasn’t shown at first because default file view only shows programs with .cr1 extension. Carlos cleaned flux and rad sensors. The 7700 had dried-on bird poop on the lower mirror; probably why the initial RSSI was so low and the wash reservoir was empty when we arrived. Looking at the data back in the lab, the RSSI has been low <15 for the past 3 weeks. Carlos refilled the wash reservoir. We swapped the water level sensor desiccant. Carlos checked the 7700 fuse and one of its screws, which were both dry. The urban tower 7700 on the Berkeley Way West building had a lot of water damage from this winter’s storms, so today we are checking all of the Delta 7700s. Since the fuse, fuse cap, and one of the 7700 screws was dry, we decided the 7700 interior is probably dry. The 7500 read: 417ppm CO2, 177mmol/m3 H2O, 12.2C, 101.9kPa, 100SS—101 after cleaning The 7700 read: 1.97ppm CH4, 8RSSI—77 after cleaning We left at 15:30 PDT. The dirt on-ramp to Hwy 160 is more or less dry now. Instead of mud pits there are now deep ruts. We came back briefly at 16:30 PDT so to send Corteva’s IRT program to the CR1000X. The real-time data seemed reasonable and the microSD card showed up in File Control. Should be ok now. |
