I arrived about 9:00 with Siyan. The Ameriflux crew, Mahga, Chad, Alex, Stephen and Sigrid all arrived by 9:30. It was a nice sunny day. Mosquitos bugged us in the morning as we talked waiting for everyone to arrive. There are more flowers this time, and the trees still have some of the light green of new leaves. Some of the hillsides on the way out are already turning yellow.

Ameriflux is setting up an inter-comparison today. Stephen and Sigrid are setting up the standard mobile flux system on the top northwest corner of the tower. This Sigridâ€™s first time setting up an inter-comparison and she will be doing a bunch more on her own this summer. Chad brought down a ten inlet co2 profile system from Oregon to test as an addition to the standard inter-comparison to capture the storage term. The system uses a LI-840 and sucks continuously from all locations (the flows are balanced with needle valves) and sub samples are sent to the analyzer. This way they can cycle through all ten locations in 5 minutes. There are also aspirated Apogee thermistors for temperature at each inlet. Alex set up six 150W solar panels and twelve 100Ahr batteries to power everything. The solar system is a few meters to the southwest of the tower.

I put a new 200ft rope on the tower, fixed the broken wire on the HMP45 fan at the top, cleaned the radiometers, replaced the desiccant in the pyranometer and fixed the mount of the NR-Lite with some hose clamps.

I reinstalled the cell modem, but there was some issue with the setup of the Compute Stick on the tower so I swapped it with the one I was testing with in the lab, which is the one that was originally on the tower. Then there was an issue with the Ethernet on the USB hub so I swapped that out for the original one too. Then it all seemed to work. The data transfer now happens at 1:05PDT (12:05PST) and a second attempt to send the files is made a few minutes later in case the first attempt fails. For each attempt the modem is connect 30sec before trying to send and disconnected immediately afterwards. This should prevent Windows from using up our data quota. I had to make changes to the FTP server to get the Phenocam images, but they were working when I left.

I serviced the zcams. There was rain water in the screw holes of the boxes. On zcam 1 I accidently dropped some of the water on the closed lens. I blew the water away with compressed air and used some alcohol to clean the lens. Maybe this will fix the sticky lens cover on this camera.

Siyan showed Magha around and repaired the fence around the Tower adding a bunch of new wire.
