Summary: Cows ate coax cable to Campbells datalogger; issues with rain gauge readings; data collection.
| Dec 3, 2000, D338 Visit to Vaira Ranch to download data. Nice mild day, though fog in am. Pyranometers were wet. Need to leave ladder at site to clean domes. Saw Mr. Vaira. Helped id some species Brome grass, fescue, wild oak, rose clover, fillery, medusa head are dominant species. He also said about 30 cows graze the area and they eat about 30 pounds per day Cow ate the coax cable to the Campbells again. We fixed and have edited the files. The voltages on the batteries get down to about 11.6 v at night. We are getting a fair amount of fog, as detected by light and the wetness sensor. With high humidity and night time, the wetness sensor goes to –101. Day time when dry it is near zero. Re-installed the line PAR sensor. Put a 674 ohm jumper across the leads to convert amps to volts. The sensor is still taller than the grass. Reprogrammed the data logger, so it is reading just millivolts. 10 millivolt scale. Need to apply volt correction later Not sure if rain gauge is detecting wet events. We had rain last week, but I did not see events on the data files. Still recording 2400 hour on cr23x.dat on the wrong day. Need to check that one out. Double checked the soil moisture sensors. Sensor 20, the surface level was dead from the cow eating the cable. We respliced it and it is working again. It was reading 0.54 volts Working on and off on system 1030 to 1300. Installed LI 35 around noon The rain counter seems not to be working yet. |
