Summary: Meet Stephen Chan for Ameriflux inter-comparison, new soil co2 batteries dead - removed, reset CR23X to fix AM16/32 problem, SHF plate removed for repair.
Vaira 2012-03-19 I arrived about 10:40PDT with Stephen Chan from Ameriflux. There was diffuse sun with high clouds and little to no wind. Things are finally looking green. There is lots of water on the ground - two big puddles in the road, water running in the wheel ruts, the water hole is full. Stephen set up for two weeks of an Ameriflux intercomparison. He drove his SUV up to the cow fence just west of the gate. He setup is tower to the south of our eddy tower and put a generator behind of the solar panels. He worked until after 2pm when I left for home after visiting Tonzi. When I arrived the main solar was off due to low voltage. I reset the solar charge controller and the eddy stuff started up. Looking at the data it looks like we only lost about a day of data. The met data from the sensors connected the AM16/32 has been bad: HMP45, CNR1, PAR, LED sensor. Cycling the power on the CR23X seems to fix the problem. I'm not sure what the cause is. Maybe the solar power cutting out has something to do with it. The four batteries sn BB-VR_soilco2 for the new soil CO2 sensors were completely dead (~2V). I'm not sure why. I think the charger controller should have cut the batteries off before they got too low. The batteries were wired for 24V but the solar panels were wired for 12V. hopefully this was the problem. I rewired the panels for 24V and brought the batteries back to the lab to see if they can be recharged. Soil heat flux plate three looked bad. The cable insulation was all rotten. I removed it for repair. In the last few months, cows have breached the cow fence a couple times. I checked the battery running the fence. It seemed to be low so I hooked up a motorcycle battery to the fence. I left the old battery to see if it holds a charge. |
