Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, one Ottercam out of batteries, first data download from SonTek flowmeter, Koong's first time to Delta sites

Koong and I arrived at 10:30 PST. This was Koong’s first time visiting the Delta field sites. It was a mild and calm day with good visibility and some high thin clouds—perfect weather for a first visit.

We stopped at the breach site first to download data from the SonTek Side-Looker. A field crew was setting up more irrigation lines on the disturbed soil between the levee road and the channel banks. I downloaded data from the Side-Looker. The tide was coming in and the estimated flow was 6 m3/s. I forgot to stop logging before collecting the data. The software said that there was still 99.9% of recorder space available, so I did not reformat or delete the data. Plots of the 2 week’s of data seemed reasonable. We pulled the sensor up and there was some slight fouling on the upward facing sensor, which I was able to wipe off easily.

We then headed to the tower. The tide was low but rising. I showed Koong how to clean the flux and rad sensors. We topped off the wash reservoir. I downloaded met, camera, USB GHG, and miniDOT data.

There are no spikes in the PARin data since we changed its mux channel, so there must have been a problem with the mux channel causing the data spikes.

The miniDOT was underwater, and the other water sensors I assume were also underwater because I did not see any visible sensors hanging off of the boardwalk. Looking at the data back in the lab, the HYDROS21 conductivity value is still dropping towards 0 at low tide, so I think it still needs to be moved to deeper waters. Joe has materials to make an additional boardwalk length and we can extend the HYDROS21 and eosGP cables.

I downloaded data from the 2 Ottercams. The Ottercam north of the tower was out of batteries and it had a few video files on its card, but the files were all 0 size. The Ottercam south of the tower was facing downward because the stake was loose. I pushed the stake farther into the soft ground to correct the camera’s view, but maybe it’s a little low now. This camera had more than 500 video clips, 3 of which were Dennis collecting soil samples, and 1 of an otter entering the water. The other videos were of grass waving around in the wind. I will bring spare batteries next time.

We left at 11:20 PST.
