Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, AirT/RH sensor bad--removed and needs to be replaced, Koong's first visit to the Delta
2022-03-01 West Pond Koong and I arrived at 10:30 PST. This was Koong’s first time visiting the Delta field sites. It was a mild and partly cloud day—perfect weather for a first visit. The water level is still going up and the staff gauge read 91cm. The inlet is off, though, so I’m guessing the water must be coming in from the connection to East End. Bryan said water levels have been increasing because they're trying to flush out salt. The water level is so high we had to traverse the stack of old boards on the boardwalk platform to get to the scaffolding. The water surface under the tower is covered with duckweed. We could hear a ton of frogs and the occasional flock of water birds flying by. Most of the willow trees nearby are flowering. Koong cleaned flux and rad sensors and we topped off the wash reservoir. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG data. I downloaded the miniDOT data and we changed the dessicant for the miniDOT and water level sensors. The HMP sensor sn R0360206 was acting weird. AirT was mostly NAN in the past 2 weeks and RH also became NAN in the past few days. The HMP sensor was wired on SW12V so I changed it to 12V just to make it simpler. It was also wired as a SE sensor so I moved it to a different mux channel as a DE sensor and sent a new datalogger program to the CR1000 to reflect those changes. As this point, RH was reading a reasonable number but AirT was still NAN. I swapped the mux channels between AirT and RH, and AirT was still NAN while RH was reasonable, so it wasn’t an issue with power or the mux channels. I called Joe and he suggested opening up the plastic shroud behind the cable connector to check the screw terminals in there—they looked fine. Maybe the yellow wire was to the side of the screw instead of right underneath the screw, but I re-did it and nothing changed in the data. I decided to bring the sensor back to the lab to test further. We need to install a replacement HMP sensor here next time. LI-7500 readings: CO2 413ppm H2O 400ppm T 21.3C P 102.1kPa SS 98--> 100 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 1.98 ppm RSSI 42--> 80 after cleaning We left at 14:10 PST. |
