Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, windy, field getting disked so I moved all soil sensors and Tyler's chambers out of the field, gained access through red gate
2021-03-30 Bouldin Corn I arrived at 10:30 PDT. It was hella windy, mild, and warming up. A farmer was just starting to disk our field when I got there. There were 2 attachments on his tractor; the first attachment, closest to the tractor, had disks that cut into the soil, and the second attachment had smooth cylinders that rolled over and flattened the disturbed soils immediately afterwards. The farmer saw me walking in from the red gate and pulled over to ask why I had left my car outside the gate. He explained there was a white digital keypad on the gate post we could use to open the gate. I shared the combo with Joe and Tyler. I tried to tell the farmer we were hoping they would disk and plant the whole field, but I’m not sure I communicated around the language barrier. I started moving the field sensors back closer to the tower. I pulled the PL Arables and our soil profile sensors from the field. I left the Arable leaning against one of Tyler’s blue boxes; Joe will install it again on Thursday. I reinstalled our soil profile sensors (thermocouples, Campbell VWC, SHF plates) under the tower, although they probably could’ve gone in just west of the tower. I left the FD chamber, Theta VWC sensor, and water level well in place. They’re close enough to the tower that they aren’t in danger from the tractor. I also moved Tyler’s chambers and soil sensors back toward his blue box. Tyler arrived later that afternoon to re-organize his equipment. I downloaded met, camera, and USB GHG data. I downloaded FD data and cleared its memory. There were no files on the PA card. I think the microSD card was not quite lodged in its slot. The 7700 wash pump was not working when I arrived, but it worked after disconnecting and reconnecting the wash power cable at both ends. I cleaned flux and rad sensors. LI-7500 readings: CO2 407ppm H2O 280ppm T 19.5C P 101.6kPa SS 101-->103 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 1.97 RSSI 47-->73 after cleaning I left at 12:30 PDT. |
