| Where: Vaira Ranch When: April 9, 2004 Who: D Baldocchi, Nicole and Albedo Arrived at the Vaira ranch around 0830 PST. Hank Loescher and Ted Hehn were on site as part of the AmeriFlux comparison. The AmeriFlux system was up and running side by side our system. Clear weather, mild day, modest winds. The week before we had been running our own radiometer calibration too. The Vaira site was green and lush. LAI was on the order of 3.7. We are having a BIG problem with the representativeness of the fenced instrument area though. The tall grass was knock down last fall with the intent it would get wet and decay. Instead it is brown and is mulching the soil, so NO grass is growing. This is very problematic under the net radiometer. We will need to deduce Rnet this season using past relations between Rg and Rn. It is also affecting our albedo and broadband NDVI estimates. We need to move the instruments over and re install the soil system after the grass dies. Downloaded data. The sonic does not seem to be pointing correctly to North. Ted and Hank re-shot its direction. Flux system was operating AOK Took plant samples for LAI and measured soil moisture. |
