Summary: Fence tangled, solar panels a-kilter, Updated CR1000 OS, added screen to tipping bucket.

Vaira 2015-01-21 I arrived about 9:30 with Siyan. It was cool and sunny with little to no wind. The water hole was full. The grass looks healthy. It seems the cows have been leaning on the fence – the upper wires were tangled in several places. I reset a couple of the corner braces that tightened up the wire a little but more could be done. I think I will also put back up a shock wire. The main solar panels were also off kilter a bit. I’m not sure is a cow got in and was pushing on them or the wind did it. There was evidence of high wind at Tonzi. I should add stakes to the bottom corners. Siyan did the usual fieldwork. I updated the OS on the CR1000 from v24 to v27. This mean having to reload the program and the program I loaded had a bug in it. I thought the card status looked odd, but didn’t figure it out until I saw the card status at Tonzi. After leaving Tonzi we stopped at Vaira again and I fixed the bug that was not creating the high frequency file on the card. The card also seemed to take a long time to format – maybe time to retire the card. I put a homemade screen in the tipping bucket. It looks like it will be fine to move the bucket to a shorter post in the middle. Hopefully this will reduce the bird fouling and make it easier to clean the bucket.
