Summary: Field starting to flood, reinstalled tower and ground sensors, swapped 7550-7500A cord, autocam is having power problems.
Twitchell 2014-10-16 I arrived about 9am with Sara. It was cool with some high thin clouds and a failing breeze. The northern check of our field had water in it. Our check was still dry, but it looked like they did the second pass disking because some of the cattails along the edge of our berm were knocked down. So we put the tower back in the field. The reinstall of the tower went well. I leveled the eddy sensors and the radiation sensors. I rotated the HMP45 90 CW to level the pyranometer. The sonic heading will have to be checked – probably a large change about 90 degrees CCW. I also reversed the mount for the 7700 bringing it much closer to the sonic and 7500. The height will also need to be measured next time. The ground sensors went back in the ground. The ground was a little chunky from the disking. Sara built new soil temperature profile rods. The DO did not go in waiting for water. The well did not go back in because the pipe was not removed before disking and has been lost. A new pipe and post hole digger will be needed next time to install the water pressure. The boardwalk went back in, but the connection between the two sections needs longer bolts. We did the standard data collection. A few wasps in the data logger box yet. The 7500 read: 397ppm CO2, 580mmol/m3, 87.0SS, 19.6C, 102.1kPa The 7700 read: 1.9ppm CH4, 40.1RSSI – 72.6 after cleaning. We swapped the cable between the 7550 box and the 7500A head per Licor’s orders. The GHG readings did not change after the cable swap. There is also an upgrade to the gaskets of the pressure port on the 7550 box that I did not do. This should be done next time. Sara did spectral measurements. The autocam is still having power problem. It might be the fake battery insert I made. I should test a replacement in the lab for next time. I checked the voltage of the big 8D batteries. They were all still above 12V. Next time I’ll try the battery tester. |
