Summary: WINDY!!! Water level in field super high, should decrease. Data download. 7550 firmware update. Sealed Met box with putty - no more wasp hotel.
Twitchell Rice 2013-11-21 We arrived about 11:00 PST. It was partly cloudy, cold, and VERY windy. After the recent rains the water level in the field was high, only 5-10 cm below the connections at the bottom of the 7550 box. We raised the box and called Jim to confirm that the water level would not climb higher (it should decrease, he said). I downloaded data and did a 7550 firmware update (v. 6.5.5) while Laurie cleaned the flux instruments and sealed the holes in the Met box with putty so no more wasps could hibernate within. Fortuitously, there were no wasps in the box to clear out before sealing, but unfortunately this was because the box was wide open when we arrived. Extra fortuitous was that it appeared the lid blew open after the rain stopped and the wind started it was nice and dry inside. A good reminder to double check the latches before leaving, especially during the winter rainy period. 7500 readings: CO2 = 391 ppm (395 after cleaning) H2O = 302 mmol m-3 (280 after cleaning) signal strength = 87.9% (88.6% after cleaning) t = 10.5 C p = 101.8 kPa sos = 341.4 m s-1 7700 readings: CH4 = 1.9 ppm (same after cleaning) RSSI = 18-20% variable (65% after cleaning) Reservoir was full. Refilled. Met looked good. |
