Summary: Tules coming up along edges, Removed NDVI sensors, updated met program to fix Bowen calculation typo, measured surface water conductivity at different depths
2024-02-28 East End Joe and I arrived at 14:00 PST, chasing off a group of geese hanging out on the gas pad lake (Joe: “You probably shouldn’t be drinking well pad juice anyways!”) It was warm, sunny, and relatively still. There are some new tules growing on the edges of the wetland. The staff gauge read 68cm. The wash reservoir was almost empty; Joe refilled it. We tested the spray and spin on the 7700, which were both ok. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. Joe cleaned flux and rad—lots of spiderwebs. I downloaded the miniDOT data and swapped its desiccant. Joe removed the SRS NDVI sensors sn 2046503390 and sn 2046503344 because they are drifting. He also removed the Apogee cables, which were not connected to any sensors. I update the CR1000 met program to remove the SRS and Apogee NDVI measurements and to fix a typo in the Bowen calculations so the qsat equation now uses esat instead of ea. The 7500 read: 433ppm CO2, 257mmol/m3 H2O, 21.9C, 101.5kPa, 94SS – 95SS after cleaning The 7700 read: 2.1ppm CH4, 27RSSI -- 77 after cleaning Joe measured the surface water conductivity with the handheld YSI probe. He got way different numbers depending on where the probe was in the water column. He measured about 10cm under the surface (top), about 50cm under the surface (bot, near the ground), and about 30cm under the surface (mid). We should see how these numbers compare to the conductivity sensor, and standardize where we measure “surface” water conductivity. The measurement near the bottom is double the mid/upper measurements. Sample, temperature-compensated conductivity, temperature Surface_top, 672 uS, 6.9 degC Surface_bot, 1560 uS, 8.9 degC Surface_mid, 706 uS, 7.6 degC Joe pushed back some of the litter overhanging the boardwalk walkway and grabbed a gallon of surface water for the upcoming elementary school field trips. We left at 14:50 PST. |
