Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, low water levels, water sensors out of the water, cleaned precip bucket, swapped 7700 desiccant, first fall precip in a few days, record-breaking heat wave last week
2022-09-15 Mayberry Kanishka and I arrived at 11:10 PDT. It was mild and breezy with some cumulus and cirrus clouds in the sky, with showers expected this coming Sunday. Last week 2022-09-05 to 2022-09-08, most the Bay Area had a record-breaking heat wave with 3 days of all-time high temperatures at this site. 1. 41.3C (2022-09-06) 2. 40.2C (2022-09-05) 3. 39.9C (2022-09-08) We observed a lot of birds, including pelicans, stilts, and plovers. Weeds on the interior levee roads have been chomped down by sheep (2nd time this summer), and some of the potholes have been repaired with sand. A random battery box lid was laying on the ground by our usual parking spot--probably it was hidden in the weeds and it was recovered by the sheep. We brought it back to the lab. The water level is super low here, below the bottom of the staff gauge. We can see exposed mud on both sides of the channel in front of the tower. The miniDOT and eosGP sensor were high and dry. I didn't lower the floating boom more, as the sensors would've just been in the mud. For now the water level sensor is still submerged, but maybe we want to relocate the sensor to the channel or lower ground. With dry ground, this would also be a good time to fix errant thermocouples. I downloaded met, cam, and USB GHG data. Kanishka cleaned the flux and rad sensors and topped off the wash reservoir. I downloaded the miniDOT data and swapped desiccant for the miniDOT and water level sensors. The 7700 optics RH was 31% last visit and 34% this visit. There was a red warning in the 7700 software about the high RH. I swapped in a new tube of desiccant today. One of the o-rings on the plug had some wear and a small tear, but not sure how much that matters. I put a bit of the Licor grease on the o-rings. We cleaned the funnel and tipping buckets in the precip bucket. I tried to avoid tipping the bucket, but there might've been one. The 7500 read: 394ppm CO2, 685mmol/m3 H2O, 21.9C, 100.9kPa, 99SS -- 101 after cleaning The 7700 read: 1.97ppm CH4, 41RSSI – 86 after cleaning We left at 12:10 PDT. |
