Summary: Standard data download and systems check
| D157, June 6, 2003 Where: Tonzi Ranch Who: ddb Arrived around 12:00 PST after day at Forestry Camp near Quincy. Mild temperatures, clear day and slightly humid. Tess is on site measuring photosynthesis. Grass is mostly dead, but there are green herbs and plenty of wildflowers. The understory system could be detecting photosynthesis. Dusted off net radiometers near forest floor Checking out Tower flux system and downloading data. Note that the CO2 calibration tank has 1800 psi and is marked at 426.1 ppm. The most recent span was 415.6 ppm. N2 tank is at 1000 psi. CO2 in the field was about 361 ppm. The tower flux system was experiencing lots of spikes near midday. High sun W: 0.71; u: -0.39; v: -1.79; T: 29.3; q: 2.93; C: 1.12. The q volts was high, but RH was 48% and T air was about 28C. Power at base was 1.7 amp, 14.3 v battery. The traces seem to have less noise after Ted has changed system. Think this is good! New CO2 profile system seems to be running well. P: 941 mb; T: 43 C and Tbase: 53C Flows on meter varying, but this shows why it is sooo important to control pressure. Saw flows at 3, 4, 2.5 and 2.75 lpm as the system cycled through the solenoids. On tower v 14.1v, load, 2.1 amp. **** To do: We need to double check and see if the CR23x box on the top of the tower was the one that leaked over the winter and ruined the Campbell. We need to weather proof it if not. Cleaned dust off the pyranometer. Could not reach the net. We need to develop mount to swing sensor in for easy cleaning and remounting. Tons of bird crap on the sonic. It seems to be working. We may want to swap it out from time to time and clean the head. 13:00 Floor system, load 2.2 a, V 13.9 v, solar 11 am W: 0.18; u: 0.24; v: -0.15; T: 31.3; q: 3.06; C: 1.45 Signals look good. Tess is taking soil moisture. We need to write data down in the log and on the file. Down loaded data, need to fix the CR10x #7 rename file. Notice that the std devs are wrong and need debugging. Missing file change program for CR 10x #5 too. Task 1 was calling Gillsonic every 3 minutes. Was a nuisance and I deleted it (which was a mistake). I later reinstated the program, but named it C:\tonzi\gillsonic.exe. The next day Tess noticed it did not fire up, because we need DOS 8 char names. She renamed it c:\tonzi\gillso~1.exe and it works. We are now firing up pc208 every 5 rather than 3 minutes; it was a nuisance that when I downloaded data the system was firing up on me. Checked Jianwu’s CO2 system. Under treee, 1600, 3000, 6000 ppm, nice gradient. In open 560, 20 and 3000 ppm. One sensor seems dead. Vaira 15:25 Downloaded data. Grass is dead but tall in the enclosure. W: .14; u: 1.55; v: -1.2; T: 27; q: 3.029; c: 1.42 Sensors seem ok. Batt: 13.6 v; Solar gen: 7.8 amp; load: 2.9 amp Downloaded data. Checking met system CG_dn was 0.07 v, seemed small, but may be in reference to Tbase (32 C) Tair: 27.8 RH 42%, Rg 664 wm-2 Rn 328 PAR 1341. Notice Par on diffuse was 1441 and diffuse was 233. We need to swap out the PAR. They age with time! |
