Twitchell Rice: 2010-04-29 11:30:00 (DOY 119)
Author: Joe Verfaillie
Others: Jaclyn
Summary: Adjusted bypass valve, connect and download a driver, soil sampling (2 profiles to 65cm depth)
Twitchell 4/29/2010 Arrived about 11:30PDT with Jaclyn. Clear, sunny, warm, wind from west, a few puffy clouds floating around. No sign or rice sprouting yet. Ground and roads were dry. Talked to Jim about sign generator for Frank. The sign generators run 8 to 10 days on 20 to 30 gallons of diesel. Systems were all well. LGR: 11:37PDT, 26.85C, 117.58Torr, 13.985usec, 10Hz, 1.9170ppm, 8048.13ppm, 406.53ppm I adjusted the bypass valve to bring the pressure back up to 145.33Torr. I tried to download serial drivers for Sherman, but I think the pump disrupts the cell modem. I notice noise in my voice calls when I am close to the pump. I brought the netbook away from the box and was able to connect and download a driver. Water was 90cm below the top on the well pipe and the top of the well pipe is 20cm above the soil surface, so the water table was at about 70cm. --------------------- E-mail from Jacyln about today's field work: Subject: quick field notes 4/29/10 "Went to Sherman and Twitchell [on 4/29/10] with Joe. It was a beautiful clear and cool day (some clouds starting around noon), with light winds from the west/southwest. Pepperweed at Sherman looks like it is about to bloom. Screen shots of the Sherman system are attached. I took canopy field reflectance measurements at Sherman, measured soil moisture with the MoisturePoint, and we downloaded the Vaisala probe CO2 data. I also took a bunch of soil core samples for CH4/CO2 measurements on the LGR in the lab - I took 2 profiles of 6 cores each (surface to 65cm) at Twitchell, and took a bunch of cores in the wetland under the levee tower, but it was difficult since the soils there are so saturated, so over the next month or so I'm going to try chambers.I also took one profile of cores at Sherman for Marga to use the WP4 in the lab to do water retention curves." |
