Summary: Pepper weed in cow fence chest high, flower bulbs close to blooming, Jaclyn took soil samples from wetland area under the levee tower and one profile by Sherman tower
Sherman 4/29/2010 Arrived about 9:30am with Jaclyn. Clear, sunny, stable wind from the west. The ground seemed relatively dry, maybe only very light rain the past couple days. The ditch near the road seemed full. Pepper weed in the cow fence is about chest high and has flower bubs close to blooming. Out side the fence the pepper weed is 40 to 50cm and doesn't look like it will flower soon. Also lots of foxtails and the nasty spiny weeds are coming up thick. Cows were in the far west of the field but migrated back east in the northern section. Checked and started generator at the trailer. Generator ran fine. LGR came up in slow flow mode, switched it to high flow. Downloaded images from plantcam. I checked systems at the cow pasture. LGR: 10:28PDT, 24.32C, 144.39Torr, 17.926usec, 1.870ppm, 10Hz, 1307.6hrs Started to setup a serial port for the soil CO2 system, but I didnt have the driver and in the process messed up the other USB to serial ports. Currently only the met data is still connected to the computer. I should be able to fix this on Monday. Com1 Met Com3 FastRad Com4 SoilMoist Com5 SoilCO2 Com6 CR1000 Left for Twitchell about 11am Returned from Twitchell about 1pm Jaclyn took soil samples from tidal area at the levee location while I tried to fix the serial ports at the cow pasture. Shut down the generator about 1:30pm. Trailer LGR readings: 12:21PST, 22.52C, 147.83Torr, 17.089usec, 10Hz, 1.8244ppm, 6697.72ppm, 391.99ppm --------------------- E-mail from Jacyln about today's field work: Subject: quick field notes 4/29/10 "Went to Sherman and Twitchell [on 4/29/10] with Joe. It was a beautiful clear and cool day (some clouds starting around noon), with light winds from the west/southwest. Pepperweed at Sherman looks like it is about to bloom. Screen shots of the Sherman system are attached. I took canopy field reflectance measurements at Sherman, measured soil moisture with the MoisturePoint, and we downloaded the Vaisala probe CO2 data. I also took a bunch of soil core samples for CH4/CO2 measurements on the LGR in the lab - I took 2 profiles of 6 cores each (surface to 65cm) at Twitchell, and took a bunch of cores in the wetland under the levee tower, but it was difficult since the soils there are so saturated, so over the next month or so I'm going to try chambers.I also took one profile of cores at Sherman for Marga to use the WP4 in the lab to do water retention curves." |
