Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, goats on the levee road, water samples for Isabel, first site visit in 3 weeks
2020-04-03 Mayberry Mike and I arrived at the tower at 18:20 PDT. It was a sunny, breezy and cool day. It has been dry recently, but it’s expected to rain for 3 days starting tomorrow. This is the first site visit in 3 weeks. The Bay Area is on the third week of COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders, with at least 4 more weeks to go. There were goats on the levee road north of the Mayberry Farms sign. We parked in front of the sign and walked through the electric fences and goats to the tower, a 15 to 20 min walk. At the north end of the goat enclosure, we met the 2 guard dogs and then shortly afterwards, the sheep farmer. The dogs are a lot cuter when you’re driving by in a car, rather than walking slowly towards them in the same enclosure they are in. The weeds on the grass roads were tall—hopefully the goats will graze those as well. The water level was 42 cm. I downloaded met, camera, USB GHG, and miniDOT data. I swapped the miniDOT desiccant. The wash reservoir was empty; we refilled it. There was a thin spider web covering most of the upper 7700 mirror, which is probably why the wash reservoir was empty—the spray kept washing the lower mirror, but the RSSI was not improving. I cleaned flux and rad sensors. Mike collected water samples for Isabel at 17:30 PST. The new boardwalk leading to the tower is awesome. LI-7500 readings: CO2 408ppm H2O 471ppm T 17.2C P 101.2kPa SS 106--> 107 after cleaning LI7700 readings: CH4 2.0ppm RSSI 17-->82 after cleaning We left at 18:45 PDT and walked back through the goats and electric fences. Surprisingly, the dogs did not bark at us the 2nd time, but did escort us almost all the way through the enclosure. |
