Summary: Moved met sensors to new pluggable strip, adjusted well and water level sensor, measured water level, improved boardwalk
2020-03-11 Mayberry Joe and I arrived at 12:40 PDT. It was a mild and breezy day with blue skies and low cumulus clouds. The staff gauge water level was 27 cm. Joe added new planks of wood to expand our boardwalk to a boulevard. I removed a non-working eosGP sensor (sn GP20160069 ?) from the floating boom. I also added lock washers to the HMP shield bolts, but it is still missing 1 bolt. The replacement we brought was about 0.5cm short. I downloaded met and cam data and moved the met sensors to the new pluggable power strips. I re-started the camera. We tried to pound the water level sensor well deeper into the soil so that the sensor could be lower in the ground. We taped a 1†cap onto the bottom end of the well tube and tried to pound it in (the cap would prevent soil from filling the tube from the bottom). After hammering on it for a minute, it wasn’t going down any farther, so we pulled the tube up, but lost the PVC cap to the bottom of the hole. We couldn’t dig it out. Below the muck, the soil was hard and compacted. We put the well tube back in the hole we made. Next time we try, we need a 1½†PVC cap. Before we moved the water level sensor: Top of well to WL = 71 cm Top of well to probe = 86 cm After we moved the water level sensor: Top of well to WL = 69 cm Top of well to probe = 91 cm (water level = 22 cm) Sensor reading = 0.31 psi (x 70.41 psi/cm = 21.8 cm – good match with physical reading!) We left at 15:10 PDT. |
