Summary: Installation of Sedpoint2 for permanent monitoring of porewaters
I arrived at Mayberry at 9 am to install Sedpoints for permanent monitoring of porewaters. It was a sunny day with some clouds but very windy. The water level was at 52 cm, the highest it has been since April 2019. There was standing water in all sites I visited. I installed 3 sedpoints at 10, 30 and 50 cm depth at the tower and at the channel to the west of the tower. At the 0.5 and 0.7 footprint I installed sedpoints at a higher depth resolution 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 cm in a cattail and Phragmites site, respectively. I ran vinyl tubing along the vegetation openings to a location at about 6 feet from the sedpoints to avoid disturbing the area when sampling. I placed pinch clamps at the end of the tubes to prevent air being introduce in the system. Sedpoints and their respective lines are marked with colored electric tape. Color coding represents sediment depth. Red: 10 cm Yellow: 20 cm Blue: 30 cm Green: 40 cm White: 50 cm I poured washed sand to fill in the boreholes if any space was left around the sedpoint after removing the installation tool. I left at 4.30 pm. The cable gate by the Mayberry Farms sign was half open, I locked it when I left the site. |
