Summary: LGR returned to high flow and 10Hz, Changed CR23x program, swapped broken 40 gage FWTC, talked to Jim Casey, harvest may be 3 to 4 weeks away.

Arrived about noontime. Mostly clear, sunny, gusty breeze. Rain has knocked down the dust a bit but already drying out. Rice looking yellow and heavy.

The box had a little puddle of water on the top but no signs that any water had gotten inside. Everything was running and seemed to be in good condition. Water level didn't seem any lower than usual. No rain reported in data file - need to check to make sure tipping bucket is working.

Radiation sensors looked clean.

LGR pressure was a little low. Switched to low flow and cleaned external 2um and 40um filters – not very dirty. Added water trap in tubing at mid height on the tower. Returned to high flow and 10Hz.

Downloaded all data before changing CR23x program. I added new input locations to display radiations and soil heat fluxes in standard units instead of millivolts. These are for display only and no changes were made to the stored values.

Copied data and swapped cards.

Some photos from kite.

Swapped broken 40 gage FWTC with working 36 gage FWTC.

Stepped on and crushed crayfish hiding in grass at tower base.

I talked to Jim Casey morning of 9/15. Water was turned off on our field and most other fields yesterday morning (9/14). Water still on field 5 and some of the varietals. Water should drain slowly for a week, then next week they may pull the boards that will cause the fields to drain faster. Harvest may be 3 to 4 weeks away yet.

The generator that runs the pumps and powers our tower should continue to run until the fields are re-flooded for winter, but it is unclear whether the generator will run continuously over winter or not.

The rice variety planted in our field is M-104. See the following link for some good details on this variety:
