Bouldin Alfalfa: 2018-12-13 09:55:00 (DOY 347)

Summary: Re-tested rain bucket, removed Arable
2018-12-13 Bouldin Alfalfa Joe and I arrived around 9:55. It was cool and mostly cloudy. There was a thick layer of fog over Antioch and our route through Sherman and Twitchell Islands. The field was dry enough to drive out to the tower, which was nice because the alfalfa was about 20-30cm tall and full of dew. We checked on Arable sn A000251 because it had not been calling back to the server for the past 2 weeks. The little orange LED underneath the Arable was on, and nothing changed when we pressed the black button on the sensor rim. Joe called Levon at Arable, who told us that the Arable was still charging, despite being out in the field with an external solar panel for the past 2 weeks. We decided to bring it back to the lab to charge. I plugged it in overnight in the lab and the LED underneath turned green. The next day, I twisted it onto its mount, and blue LEDs came on on top, indicating the Arable had successfully started up. We also tested precipitation tipping bucket sn 65560-615. We connected it to a CR23X and poured in 475ml of water. We got 86 tips and Joe turned it 4.5 turns CW (it had probably been adjusted in the wrong direction the previous test). Joe cleaned the flux sensors, which had a lot of spiderwebs. After cleaning, 7500 SS was 107 and 7700 RSSI was 71. The wash reservoir was empty; I refilled it. We left around 10:30. |
