Sherman Wetland: 2016-12-06 09:30:00 (DOY 341)
Author: Joe Verfaillie
Others: Dennis, Sam, Daphne, Jorge Perez
Summary: LOTS of bird poop, more water, cold, windy, standard data collection.
Sherman Wetland 2016-12-06 I arrived about 9:30 with Dennis, Sam, Daphne, and Jorge Perez. It was cold and windy with a light overcast. The water level in the wetland is higher with all the ponds and swales filled and overflowing the edges in low spots, especially the northeast corner of the wetland. The ground immediately around the tower is still dry. There was bird poop everywhere - the boardwalks were nearly white with it. There were a few ants in the data logger box, but they were very cold. I didn’t, but we should put a couple of moth balls in that box. Sam cleaned the solar panels and radiometers and Dennis and Jorge cleaned the tipping bucket. The tipping bucket funnel was full of bird poop. The 7500 read: CO2 428.2ppm H2O 316.0mmol/m T 10.7C P 100.3kPa SS 100.8 --> 102.3 after cleaning The 7700 read: CH4 1.98ppm RSSI 48 --> 83.3 The bottom mirror on the 7700 may have a small scratch. The wash reservoir was refilled. Dennis tried to put the EosGP CO2 probe in the water but the water is still too far away. He settled for putting the sensors near the ground because the water table seemed to almost be at the surface. |
