Summary: Cold and foggy, no met data since 2024-12-11--fixed after removing shorted water level sensor, field is flooded
2024-12-19 Bouldin Corn/Sorghum Kyle and I arrived at 13:10 PST. It was cold and foggy. We had a big storm last week and more rain coming all next week. Our field and all of surrounding fields are flooded. Kyle went to go look at the drain in the southeast corner of the field and confirmed that water was flowing out of the field. There was no water at the surface under the tower, but I could see a puddle forming around the edges of the well pipe, so the water is probably just under the surface. Charlotte was also on site, on the phone with Campbell Sci when we arrived. She was here yesterday and all of her ground sensors were reporting NAN, so she was back today to troubleshoot them. She was wondering what our soil sensors measure and if she could use them to gap fill her data. I opened our met enclosure and could hear a high-pitched squealing sound which usually means something is shorting. I unplugged everything from the power strip, which stopped the squealing sound. I powered just the datalogger to download data. No met data since 2024-12-11. I started plugging the sensors back into the power strip one by one. The water level sensor is the one that was shorting, which is too bad because now is the main time of the year we need water level data. Kyle removed the sensor sn ?? and confirmed that the black, outside cable is cracked. All the other data seemed fine. I also downloaded met, cam, and PA data. Kyle cleaned flux and rad sensors. I’m not sure if she checked the precip bucket here. 7500 read: 441ppm CO2, 449mmol/m3 H2O, 10.1C, 102.1kPa, 100SS--100 after cleaning 7700 read: 2.26ppm CH4, 43RSSI – 78 after cleaning We left at 13:55 PST. Looking at the data back in the lab, there's something wrong with the sonic data starting around the same time as the water level sensor shorted and we lost met data. Tsonic stays around 5C. The 7500/7700 data seem ok though. |
