Kuno and I arrived at 12:15 PDT. It was clear sunny and hot with a variable breeze. Some tar weed, the trees and a fringe around the pond are the only green.

Kuno is setting up for biweekly ground and tree trunk CO2/CH4 (some N2O) fluxes. He installed 10 soil collars and 4 stem chambers and ran many test rounds. All soil spots were small CH4 sinks with average flux of -0.5 nmol m-2 s-1. Surprisingly, the lower part of one of the oak trees was small CH4 source while all other chambers were sinks. Also, the trees were very small sources of N2O. Next time we will install the remaining 16 tree chambers and continue sampling every time we go out there.

I did all the usual data collection. I collected fluxes and camera data from the tower top. I did the manual soil moisture, well and dendrometer readings. The well sensor battery is a little loose and I had to push on the battery cover once to get it to work. The battery terminals inside the Moisture Point box were also coming loose, I fixes those too. I collected the Floor fluxes, well data and the FD data.

I serviced the zcams. They could all use better mounts and cameras 2 and 3 should have their windows reglued before it rains.

I did midday water potential. There are some acorns on the big oak tree. When I was a kid the oaks always had acorns when it was time to go back to school.

The lithium power pack for the old laptop was down one status light and didn't seem to be strong enough for the laptop to boot completely. I did not collect the Global Water data.

I collected the TOMST data. There were some gaps in the data I have from the original five sensors. I did a full data collection (about 197 days) from all the sensors and set the software back to collect just the newest data for next time.

I reset the manual dendrometer on tree 1. The metal band here is almost too short and the screw in the slider is a little wonky. It needs a new band next time it is reset. The hinge on tree 79 is broken and being absorbed by the tree.

The Davis SIF trailer was beeping due to low power again. I checked and found the solar controller had been wired completely wrong delivering no power to the batteries. I fixed this and tighten all the lug bolts. The batteries were charging but I left inverter disconnected.

We left at about 16:00 PDT.
