Summary: Standard data collection, saw Dale Vaira, well being drilled on property further in, removed north FD chamber for use at Tonzi.
Vaira 2023-12-13 I arrived at 11:30 PST. It was a beautiful sunny and mild winter day. The trees still have a lot of leaves and more colorful than I remember. I think it has been warm this fall without big storms to knock the leaves off. The gate was held closed by the bungee cord. The usual keyed lock was missing and an additional combo lock was on the chain. I let myself in hoping I wouldn’t get locked in. While I was at the site a truck came passed with a National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) employee. I gave him my contact info as he expressed interest in the met data from the tower and he gave me one of the lock combinations. Later I met Dale Vaira and his friend Larry out near the pond. Dale said one of the land holder further in was having a well drilled which probably was the reason for the NRCS and extra lock. Dale also gave the combo for the usual combo lock – just in case. Dale and Larry were doing target practice with a scope on a 22 rifle and later were going to test a pistol like thing called a launcher. The launcher is a non-lethal, co2 cartridge power weapon for home defense that shoots plastic marbles. They put the guns away and had lunch while I went to the pond. Dale also had the keyed lock which he would put back on the gate on their way out. Old combo: 1984 New lock: 8592 – this will probably disappear after the well is done. At the site I measured the well and did the usual data collection. I collected the flux, met, camera and FD data. The camera had bumped its date back to April (basically swapped the month 12 for 4) like it does at the end of every year. The 7500 read: 445.4ppm CO2, 362.9mmol/m3 H2O, 23.2C, 99.9kPa, 112.0SS The thermistor gets some sun heating it, I should think about a shade for it. I removed the north FD chamber sn FD20200001 to use under the tree at Tonzi while we wait for Eosense to repair a chamber. I left the stakes and zip ties on the data box and the cable end blowing in the wind. I hope the rain next week won’t get it too wet. The wire arms went with the FD to Tonzi. I checked the radiometers and the tipping bucket – all were pretty clean. I did spectral measurements. I left at 13:00 PST |
