Bouldin Alfalfa: 2023-07-11 13:55:00 (DOY 192)

Summary: Regular data collection/cleaning, hot day, alfalfa growing back unevenly
2023-07-11 Bouldin Alfalfa Carlos and I arrived at 13:55 PDT. It was hot and sunny with clear skies. There will be another heat wave this weekend with temperatures >38C Friday through Monday. Tyler’s old alfalfa field south of the barn is sprouting in rows, probably corn. Our alfalfa field is growing unevenly, alternating rows with tall and flowering alfalfa with shorter alfalfa. It’s obvious where the rows of hay were drying on the field because the alfalfa is markedly shorter. The farmers will probably mow soon. Carlos cut the alfalfa under the tower. I told him we could trim the alfalfa under the Arable next time. I downloaded the usual data: met, cam, USB GHG, FD and IRT. I forgot to get the 5min data, but it should all be there next time. I changed the eddy clock +1min around 13:15 PST to match the laptop time and restarted logging. Carlos took spectral and veg height measurements. I cleaned flux and rad sensors; there was dried bird poop covering part of the PARin sensor. The HMP fan was dead so I swapped in a new one. I cleaned the solar panel. The 7500 read: 409ppm CO2, 670mmol/m3 H2O, 31.8C, 101.3kPa, 95SS – 98 after cleaning We left at 14:40 PDT. |
